Pahu, a female Sumatran rhino the Government of Indonesia and Sumatran Rhino Rescue successfully rescued and relocated from a remote region in Indonesian Borneo in November 2018, marked the first major activity of an expanded conservation breeding program that aims to save the species from imminent extinction.
She now takes center stage in an upcoming television special that airs in the United States on Nat Geo WILD on Saturday, October 24 at 10/9c. The special will air internationally — those interested should check their local listings for specific timing.
During filming of the show, Pahu posed for the camera on an elevated platform before wallowing in a mud bath. Pahu’s images and video now have a place in the National Geographic Photo Ark, an archive of more than 10,500 species — and counting — living in the world’s zoos, aquariums and wildlife sanctuaries.
The show provides a glimpse into Pahu’s life and our work to help protect the species.
